Purrs McBarkin' is an independent pet nutrition store in Hartsville, South Carolina, built on a simple belief: pets deserve better.
I’m Dave Zanoni, founder and owner of Purrs McBarkin'. I opened this store because I believed pet parents deserved a place where products were chosen with care, not driven by trends, flashy packaging, or marketing claims. My goal has always been to create a store where honesty, education, and better nutrition come first.
At Purrs McBarkin', every product is selected with intention. I look closely at ingredients, formulation quality, and overall nutritional value before anything earns a place on the shelf. This is not about filling space with popular brands. It is about offering food, treats, supplements, and supplies that support the long term well being of dogs and cats.
To deepen that work, I went back to school and earned certification in canine and feline nutrition through Southern Illinois University. That education strengthened what I believed from the beginning: nutrition matters, details matter, and pet parents deserve guidance rooted in substance.
When you walk into Purrs McBarkin', I want you to feel confident that someone has taken the time to think carefully about what is being offered. Whether you are comparing foods, looking for better options, or simply trying to make informed choices for your dog or cat, I am here to help with honest guidance and a thoughtful approach.

From Vinny’s Zoomies to Purrs McBarkin’
A Name Inspired by a Rescue Dog’s Playful Spirit
The name "Purrs McBarkin’" comes from a sweet and playful story about our rescue dog, Vinny, who we adopted from the Florida Humane Society. Vinny has such a fun personality, and when he gets the "zoomies"—those bursts of wild energy that make him run around like crazy—he barks with so much excitement. Watching him in those moments always made me smile, and I started calling him "Mr. McBarkin’" as a silly little nickname. It suited him so perfectly that it stuck.
When I decided to open a pet store, I wanted the name to be something special and meaningful—something that represented the joy and love our pets bring to our lives. That’s when the nickname "Mr. McBarkin’" came back to me. But since I knew I’d be carrying products for cats as well as dogs, it only made sense to add a little feline flair. That’s how "Purrs McBarkin’" was born—a name inspired by Vinny’s zoomies, his playful barks, and the idea of bringing happiness to both cats and dogs alike.
Every time I see the name, I think of Vinny and how much joy he brings to my life. It’s a reminder of the love we share with our pets and why I wanted to create a store that celebrates that special bond. For me, "Purrs McBarkin’" isn’t just a name; it’s a little piece of Vinny’s story and the inspiration behind everything I do. 🐾 -Dave
