Most pet food labels list nutrients on an as fed basis, which means the numbers include moisture. That can make foods with very different moisture levels harder to compare fairly. This calculator converts label values to dry matter basis and estimates carbohydrate by difference so you can evaluate the food with more clarity.

Pet food labels usually do not list carbohydrate directly. This tool helps estimate it using the numbers already provided on the package. Because Guaranteed Analysis values are label guarantees rather than exact lab assay results, the carbohydrate result should be viewed as an estimate, not an exact laboratory measurement.

Before using the calculator, enter the Guaranteed Analysis values exactly as printed on the label. Enter numbers only and leave out the percent sign. Protein, fat, fiber, and moisture are required. Ash is optional. If ash is not listed, the calculator will use a default estimate. If important values are missing, contact the manufacturer for more complete nutrient information.

This tool is designed to help you compare foods more fairly across different formats, including dry, canned, raw, gently cooked, freeze dried, and air dried diets. The result can be useful, but it is only one part of the full picture. Ingredient quality, amino acid balance, fatty acid profile, fiber type, calorie density, digestibility, processing, and the individual pet still matter.
